At KJC Aboriginal Artwork, community connection isn’t just part of what we do, it’s who we are.
We’re proud to be involved in local events, cultural programs, and school workshops that share our traditions, stories, and skills with people of all ages.
This page is a space to celebrate and reflect on the moments that mean the most to us, from weaving circles and art markets to cultural education and collaborations.

Sport and culture went hand in hand on September 9, 2025, when the dance troupe performed a traditional Indigenous dance in honour of the Indigenous Netball Round at Port Macquarie. It was a meaningful moment that brought Country, community, and celebration together in a powerful way.
We were proud to supply the dance costumes that brought this performance to life, blending heritage, colour, and purpose under the Port Macquarie sky. More than just regalia, these were crafted with care from traditional designs and materials to honour culture and the spirit of the occasion.
It’s events like these—where our stories are performed on court, shared in movement, and worn with pride, that remind us why KJC does what we do. We’re grateful to be part of celebrations that elevate culture, unify communities, and highlight the next generation stepping forward.
Honouring Culture Through Celebration & Craft
KJC also had the honour of contributing to a momentous NAIDOC Week celebration held at Kendall Public School on July 25, where Camden Haven schools came together to mark 50 years of NAIDOC.
Our team proudly provided the dance costumes used by the Aboriginal dance group, bringing cultural artistry to life through traditional regalia. The event, supported by the Hastings AECG and local Elders, featured a Smoking Ceremony by Birpai Elder Uncle Bill O’Brien OAM, followed by powerful performances of story and song. Students participated in storytelling, rock art, language lessons, and weaving workshops, bringing learning and culture together in a meaningful way engagementinstitute.org.au+13camdenhaven.newsofthearea.com.au+13camdenhaven.newsofthearea.com.au+13.
These moments, where our traditions are shared, our youth are empowered, and culture is celebrated, are the heart of KJC. We believe in passing stories, skills, and connection forward, one dance, one workshop, and one handcrafted piece at a time.
Recently, we were proud to contribute to a Cultural Camp on Birpai Country from March 21–23 at Brigadoon Caravan Park. It was a powerful weekend where Aboriginal Elders and youth came together for cultural learning, storytelling, and connection on the shoreline of Stingray Creek. Participants painted ochre on their bodies, took part in a traditional Smoking Ceremony, learned tool-making, traditional dance, fishing, crabbing, and explored potential career pathways under the guidance of Elders like Uncle Bill O’Brien, Uncle Tony Clark, and Uncle Wayne Anderson. newsofthearea.com.au
These are the moments we carry with us, when culture is shared by Elders, embraced by youth, and lived on Country. It’s why we continue weaving community into everything we do, from workshops and art pieces to ceremonies and creative events.

In June 2025, the first ACHIA Summit was held on beautiful Biripi Country in Port Macquarie, bringing together leaders, advocates, and changemakers to share knowledge and inspire action.
When Ashlee Donohue was invited to speak and share her voice at this important gathering, KJC Aboriginal Artwork was honoured to be asked to create a custom woven art piece in a frame as a gift of thanks.
Every thread in the piece was chosen with care, representing strength, resilience, and connection to Country, making it a truly personal and meaningful keepsake. It’s moments like these, where our art is used to express gratitude and respect, that remind us of the deep cultural role creativity plays in bringing people together.
KJC Out and About
We were stoked to see NRL legend Latrell Mitchell repping one of our KJC shirts on the golf course and out and about! And his dad, Matt Mitchell repping KJC at Latrell's South Sydney Rabbitohs signing. As big Rabbitohs fans, this was a real highlight for us — thanks for showing the love, Latrell!" 🖤💛❤️
